Today's Presidential quote is from Teddy Roosevelt, our twenty-sixth President. (NOT to be mistaken with Barack Obama, our forty-fourth President. We will get to President Obama soon enough.)
A vote is like a rifle; its usefulness depends upon the character of the user.
can we say the users cast the vote, or can we say we are being used by the vote, or is the vote useing us, or is the media useing us to lose our vote for change or should we ask for change and get a refund, or will the refund go to tax our change:doh: and about that rifle looks like the use is useless as we use up our uses for excuses:confused:

I hope so. I remember talking to some of my older eighth graders the day after the election. The students were pretty evenly split, but I remember a few saying that the next time Obama ran for office, they would be able to vote for him. I told them then I hoped Obama would do something that would make them want to vote for him and not against him. Next election should be equally as interesting.

confidence is difficult because the mindset of the dems seems to be somewhat out of sync with the majority of the reps, compromise seems to be the key, but it seems greed and avarice and corruption, get in the way of honest dialogue

Yes, and what bothers me the most is how the spirit of the American Constitution is trampled upon by those who then twist and wave it trying to convince others they are, or have been, following it. I feel we need to have more classes following and examining the Constitution through the ages, and its applications.

This being said, I am remembering I did promise Fire Watch I would not steer this thread into politics. So far this does qualify as light conversation, but I'm thinking I should now stop.
I find it interesting that it takes me getting really sick to reveal I do care a lot about the rulings Fire Watch mandates. May I get better quickly.

I have a plan for President Obama, which of course involves Fire Watch. The day before I post any Obama quotes I'll have Fire Watch tell me that he has been extremely patient with me mentioning political figures each day through my Presidential Quote of the Day campaign, but if I take it to the max (by including President Obama), there will have to be a consequence.

Just had totally genius blast of brilliance.
You bail buf out, he skips on bail, tracks himself down and turns himself in for the reward from the bail bond agency. Picture the Blazing Saddles scene where Clevon Little is holding a gun on himself. "'l'll shoot him. I swear I'll shoot him."

Fort Stanwix was under seige in August of 1777. On the final day of the seige, August 22, a woman gave birth to a baby girl. There is no record, though, of the mother or father's names, nor is there a record of the baby's name. All that is known is that the mom was overdue for the baby and couldn't be taken to another fort because they were afraid she would go into labor between forts. Then this woman was shot in the leg. Shortly after being shot, she went into labor.
I love the "personal" stories that one hears when going to places such as these.
If you ever come to Syracuse for any reason, I will take you to Fort Stanwix.

Dorothy knew that from the get-go, or she would have said, "Cool, I'm staying with the munchkins here in Oz." Remember, from the first instant she touched down in Oz, she wanted to go home.

Morning Devotional
The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ (Luke 15:21)
This Time It's Personal
by Joe Stowell
I’ll make a confession if you promise not to tell.
Having been selected to represent my college in a traveling music team one summer, I had a few days to relax at home before returning to campus for a week of practice before we started our tour. During my short visit home I discovered a bag of M-80s in my dresser drawer. In case you don’t know, M-80s are like firecrackers on steroids! Deciding that these would be perfect boredom breakers during our pre-tour rehearsals, I brought them back to campus and wasted no time showing them to my friends. No sooner had I pulled them out of the bag than someone mentioned that they go off under water.
The bathroom down the hall provided the perfect laboratory to prove the claim. I opened one of the stall doors, lit the M-80, and dropped it into the toilet bowl. I backed into the shower stall nearby and waited. For a few quiet seconds, nothing happened. But then—KABOOM! I opened up the stall door to find thousands of porcelain shards and a gaping hole in the floor where the toilet used to be!
Since there were only five of us on campus, I knew that it would not take long for the authorities to find the culprit, so I decided it would be best to make a preemptive strike and contact the Dean of Students immediately. We had a brief conversation, talking about me paying for the damage and other potential consequences, and then I headed off for our first week of summer tour, thinking: There, that takes care of that!
But when we came back to campus for some supplies after our first week on the road, I was informed that the president of the college wanted to see me in his office. Gulp! What made matters worse was that the president was a close and long-standing friend of our family.
After dropping the M-80 into the toilet bowl, it never crossed my mind that the real problem with my foolishness was not a blasted toilet and a flooded bookstore below the bathroom. The problem was that I had offended an important person in my life and had potentially damaged a significant relationship.
This is exactly what Jesus is getting at in the story of the prodigal son in Luke 15:21. While we normally think that the boy’s guilt relates to his dabblings in the darker side of life in a faraway land, that’s not Christ’s point. The prodigal asked for his inheritance early, which in that day was like saying to his dad, “I wish you were dead!” And in addition, he squandered a portion of the family estate, which was an equally egregious offense to his father.
The story of the prodigal was told to demonstrate that our sin is first and foremost a deep offense to God. It’s easy to focus on the external consequences of sin by playing games of cover-up, using repentance as a strategy for damage control so that we can get on with life. But the heart of true repentance is an acknowledgement of grief and sorrow over the way that we have personally offended our God who has given us so much and who loves us so deeply.
Thankfully, God—like the prodigal’s father—waits for us to come and repent of our sin against Him so that He can stun us with His compassionate grace of forgiveness and restoration.

When God Ran by Benny Hester & John Parenti
Almighty God,
The Great I Am
Immoveable Rock,
Omnipotent powerful
Awesome Lord,
Victorious Warrior
Mighty Conquerer,
Commanding King of Kings
And the only time,
the only time I ever saw Him run
Was when
He ran to me,
Took me in His arms, held my head to His chest
And said "My son's come home again".
Looked in my face, wiped the tears from my eyes
With forgiveness in His voice
He said "Son, do you know I still love you?"
It caught me by surprise when God ran
The day I left Home,
I knew I'd broken His heart
I wondered if
Things would ever be the same,
Then one night,
I remembered His love for me
And down that dusty road, ahead I could see
It was the only time,
the only time I ever saw Him run
Was when He ran to me,
Took me in His arms, held my head to His chest
And said "My son's come home again".
Looked in my face, wiped the tears from my eyes
With forgiveness in His voice
He said "Son, do you know I still love you?"
It caught me by surprise, It dropped me to my knees
When God ran

Holy God, Righteous One
Who turned my way
Now I know, You've been waiting

If nothing happens between now and July, I will have lived in this house longer than I've lived anywhere else in my life. I think I might like to try longevity.
My hair is a non-descript light brown, and I've never changed its color. I'm guessing someday it will probably go grey, and then I might want to learn how to color it. Every so often I do spray sparkles into it. Does that count?
I changed my kitchen curtains last year. The main windows are a sheer white so I can see outside but it makes the birds aware there is a barrier so they don't try to fly through it. The kitchen sink window only has a valence, and it follows the red and white theme I have going.

Hiding order beneath the cloak of disorder is simply a question of subdivision; concealing courage under a show of timidity presupposes a fund of latent energy; masking strength with weakness is to be effected by tactical dispositions.

Morning Devotional
If a man's gift is...leadership, let him govern diligently. (Romans 12:6-8)
Intuition
Good leaders have intuition. They "see it" when others don't; they "get it." We all fall into three intuition levels:
(1) Those who will never see it. Putting these people into a leadership role is like putting a square peg in a round hole; you can keep hammering and driving it, but it won't fit. When someone's gifted to work in a support role, it's a mistake to put them into a leadership role. Besides, every orchestra needs a good second fiddle. We're only responsible for the gifts God gives us, not the ones we want - or other people think we should have.
(2) Those who are nurtured to see it. These folks have the raw material; they just need to be nurtured and mentored. Dr. John Maxwell points out that the ability to think like a leader is "informed intuition." These people just need someone to inform, instruct and inspire them, and they'll become good leaders. The truth is, without intuition we're condemned to be blindsided by events and opinions all of our lives.
(3) Those who naturally see it. These are the ones who are born with true leadership gifts. They instinctively understand people and know how to move them from point A to point B. Even as children they act like leaders. Watch them on the playground and you will see everyone else following them. People with such God-given intuition can build on it, become great leaders and bless others.
Now, if you want to see leadership in its finest form study the life of Christ, who said, "the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life" (Mt 20:28)

Simulated disorder postulates perfect discipline, simulated fear postulates courage; simulated weakness postulates strength.
Hiding order beneath the cloak of disorder is simply a question of subdivision; concealing courage under a show of timidity presupposes a fund of latent energy; masking strength with weakness is to be effected by tactical dispositions.
I'm going with inebriated.

I am still in the hospital. It has been a little over 4 weeks. I might be able to leave in a bit over a week (when I get to 28 weeks), but that depends on the result a fetal fibronectin test, an ultrasound, and my promise to duplicate my hospital lifestyle at home. The baby is doing great. She is very active (emphasis on the "very").

The baby is doing great. She is very active (emphasis on the "very").
For those who don't know: the fetal fibronectin test is a test done to determine if a woman is in early pre-term labor. It cannot tell for sure if a woman is in labor, but it can determine for sure that a woman is NOT in labor. In early pre-term labor, it is difficult to tell if a woman is really in labor. If a woman has the fFT and there's a negative result, that means it's highly unlikely that the woman will have the baby in the next week or two. This spares the woman from being given meds to stall labor and corticosteroids to mature the baby's lungs.
If the result of the fFN is positive, that does not mean, however, that the woman will be giving birth shortly or even early at all. It just means the woman is at higher risk for pre-term labor.

I just received this story in an e-mail. I doubt the story is true, but it is funny anyway.
In a Seattle Washington college classroom, they were discussing
the qualifications to be President of the United States . It was pretty
simple - the candidate must be a natural born citizen of at least 35
years of age.
However, one girl in the class immediately started in on how
unfair was the requirement to be a natural born citizen. In short, her
opinion was that this requirement prevented many capable individuals
from becoming president. The class was taking it in and letting her
rant, but everyone's jaw hit the floor when she wrapped up her argument
by stating, 'What makes a natural born citizen any more qualified to
lead this country than one born by C-section?'

Buick is a great car, so go forth and fight the good fight. The money is on you (or so we pray!).

Morning Devotional
Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing . . . ? (Genesis 18:17)
Friendship with God
The Delights of His Friendship. Genesis 18 brings out the delight of true friendship with God, as compared with simply feeling His presence occasionally in prayer. This friendship means being so intimately in touch with God that you never even need to ask Him to show you His will. It is evidence of a level of intimacy which confirms that you are nearing the final stage of your discipline in the life of faith.
When you have a right-standing relationship with God, you have a life of freedom, liberty, and delight; you are God’s will. And all of your commonsense decisions are actually His will for you, unless you sense a feeling of restraint brought on by a check in your spirit. You are free to make decisions in the light of a perfect and delightful friendship with God, knowing that if your decisions are wrong He will lovingly produce that sense of restraint. Once he does, you must stop immediately.
The Difficulties of His Friendship. Why did Abraham stop praying when he did? He stopped because he still was lacking the level of intimacy in his relationship with God, which would enable him boldly to continue on with the Lord in prayer until his desire was granted. Whenever we stop short of our true desire in prayer and say, "Well, I don’t know, maybe this is not God’s will," then we still have another level to go. It shows that we are not as intimately acquainted with God as Jesus was, and as Jesus would have us to be— ". . . that they may be one just as We are one . . ." ( John 17:22).
Think of the last thing you prayed about-were you devoted to your desire or to God? Was your determination to get some gift of the Spirit for yourself or to get to God? "For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him" ( Matthew 6:8 ). The reason for asking is so you may get to know God better. "Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart" ( Psalm 37:4 ). We should keep praying to get a perfect understanding of God Himself.

Today's Presidential quote from our twenty-sixth President, Theodore Roosevelt.
I am only an average man but, by George, I work harder at it than the average man.
