The woman is always right. 'Nuff said.

The woman - or wife - is always certain she is right. That is different from actually being right. Except in the woman's brain.

Ya'll remember me telling you guys several months ago the story about a 20 month old girl here in my town that was beaten to death by mom's 15 year old boyfiend? (No, that's not a typo. He is a fiend.)Mom had also beaten the child, but not on the day little Imani died.
The 18 year old mom was pregnant, as well.

Well, the mom gave birth to the new baby, a girl, on Thursday, and promptly lost custody!!!!! You're probably thinking, "Well, duh! Of course she did!" But no one in her family was allowed to take custody, either.

No Man is an Island

No Man is an Island Folk Song

No man is an island, no man stands alone
Each man's joy is joy to me
Each man's grief is my own
We need one another, so I will defend
Each man as my brother
Each man as my friend

No man is an island far out in the blue
We all look to One above
Who our strength doth renew
When I help my brother
Then I know that I plant the seeds
Of friends that will never die

I saw the people gather
I heard the music start
The song that they were singing
Is ringing in my heart

No man is an island, no man stands alone
Each man's joy is joy to me
Each man's grief is my own
We need one another, so I will defend
Each man as my brother

Yes, me too. It is so frustrating. The bottom line should be what is best for the students. For the next two weeks, I am what is best--particularly for two of the classes. I am also what is best for the staff. The current situation is not my fault, nor is it the fault of the students. I do understand rules, but there is such a thing as common sense. I've been out of compliance for so long that two weeks, or at least two days, should make NO difference on paper--and it makes one heck of a difference for these students.

Thanks. My motto is that there is always another way. The easiest way may be to volunteer the time, which I wouldn't mind doing. Someone has to stand up for what is best for those students. If it takes a volunteer, then so be it. I didn't work this hard to see it fall apart at this point.

Reach Out

Reach out and touch the lonely, Lord;
The destitute in pain.
Reach out and heal those who are sick,
So their prayers won't be in vain.

Reach out and lift the burdens
From the shoulders of the meek.
Let your gentle Spirit guide them,
So your countenance they will seek.

Reach out and touch the homeless, Lord.
Give them shelter from the storm.
Nourish their bodies with good food to eat.
From your blanket of love, keep them warm.

Reach out and touch the non-believers
So, through their eyes, you can reveal
That you died for them and their sins, too;
As your blood flowed free down Calvary hill.

Books of the Bible

There are 30 books of the Bible in this paragraph. Can you find them? This is the most remarkable puzzle. It was found by a gentleman in an airplane seat pocket on a flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu keeping him occupied for hours. He enjoyed it so much he passed it on to some friends. One friend from Illinois worked on this while fishing from his john boat. Another friend studied it while playing the banjo. Elaine Taylor, a columnist friend was so intrigued by it she mentioned it in her weekly newspaper column. Another friend judges the job of solving the puzzle so involving, she brews a cup of tea to help her nerves. There will be some names that are real easy to spot. That's a fact. Some people, however, will soon find themselves in a jam, especially since the book names are not necessarily capitalized. Truthfully, from answers we get, we are forced to admit it usually takes a minister or a scholar to see some of them at the worst. Research has shown that something in our genes is responsible for the difficulty we have in seeing the books in the paragraph. During a recent fund raising event which featured this puzzle, the Alpha Delta Phi lemonade booth set a new sales record. The local paper, The Chronicle, surveyed over 200 patrons who reported that this puzzle was one of the most difficult they had ever seen. As Daniel Hummana humbly puts it, the books are right there in plain view hidden from sight. Those able to find them all will hear great lamentations from those who have to be shown. One revelation that may help is that books like Timothy and Samuel may occur without their numbers. Also keep in mind, that punctuation and spaces in the middle are normal. A chipper attitude will help you compete really well against those who claim to know all the answers. Remember, there is no need for a mad exodus, there really are 30 books of the Bible lurking somewhere in this paragraph waiting to be found.

Morning Devotional

I have found David...a man after My own heart. (Acts 13:22)

The Path to the Throne

The life of David could be captioned in these words: "I love God supremely, and there's nothing He asks of me that I won't do." Can you say that?

Everybody dies, but not everybody fully lives. The Bible says, "These are the last words of David" (2Sa 23:1). A man's last words are considered to be some of his most important words. During his lifetime David's son raped his sister, one son killed another, his wife turned her back on him, his best friend betrayed him, they took his kingdom, his mentor tried to kill him, his family rejected him and he spent a lot of time hiding in caves. Now he's going to speak to us one last time. What will he talk about? Goliath, Saul, Bathsheba?

No, listen: "David, the man who was raised up so high, David, the man anointed by the God of Jacob, David, the sweet psalmist of Israel. The Spirit of the Lord speaks through me; his words are upon my tongue. The God of Israel spoke. The Rock of Israel said to me: 'The one who rules righteously, who rules in the fear of God, is like the light of morning at sunrise, like a morning without clouds, like the gleaming of the sun on new grass after rain.' Is it not my family God has chosen? Yes, he had made an everlasting covenant with me. His agreement is arranged and guaranteed in every detail. He will ensure my safety and success" (2Sa 23:1-5). These words were recorded in Scripture for those of us who are less than perfect, but whose hearts never cease to hunger for God.

He is six years old...I read up on it online. It's actually probably one of a couple of feline viruses. The "bug" usually lasts for about 5 or 6 days, and treatment is palliative. Sometimes they will give them antibiotics. Basically, the same kind of thing we humans do to treat colds. We're going to call the vet today and see if they have anything to treat Sambo's symptoms. The last thing we want is for him to stop eating because he isn't feeling well from something non-fatal, and developing feline anorexia from it.

I wonder what this horrible and very bizarre dream of mine meant then.

Well, no, he isn't a fat cat. But we've had fat cats before that have developed anorexia, and then liver disease because of that.

I hope your cat has nothing worse than a cold and that he will be better very soon. Now is not the time for sad cat stories.

I've had some dreams so horrifying (to me) that I don't even like to talk about them later. I don't even like saying the words, for fear I will cry. You could do a google search and see if there any of the elements in your dreams have "standard" meanings. (Not sure I think there is such a thing when it comes to dreams....but I don't study dreams, so what do I know?)

I wonder......do our dreams really mean anything?

I think they can--or at least trigger word or subject associations that might help us clarify what may be affecting us. And sometimes, dreams are just dreams. I seldom get nightmares I can't direct myself out of, but the day DaGooseMon switched his avatar from that cute goose to John Goodman on a shooting spree, I remember having a dream where DaGoose was chasing me across the country. I found some really good hiding places (I could dream direct at least that much), but he kept finding me.

Finally, trying to solve the problem, I yelled at him, asking him how he kept finding me. He told me Fire Watch had me on radar and was relaying the information to him.

I got so mad at Fire Watch, I forgot about being terrified of Goose, and the dream switched over to something else.

Of course she did!" But no one in her family was allowed to take custody, either.

some sense reigns in central ny. Thank God.

Maybe your dream meant that you were really angry with Fire Watch. Or that you spent too much time on Hannity that day. :))

Honestly, I think my dream means that I worry too much about screwing up. I've gotten to the point, IRL, that I figure that either I will screw up, so why even try, or that there will be major kinks thrown into the works and everything will get screwed up, so why even try. Of course, until recently, this was subconscious, but it's come to light. Let me give you two examples from my dream.

It started out with some fighter planes exploding over the highway. I saw them explode and debris fell onto the highway, where the debris from other planes had just landed. I had my son with me (he was a baby in the dream) and I asked my parents (my dad was alive in the dream) to come and get him so I could help. They never showed up. Turns out, their car had broken down. (This was the other things around me "screwing up") Later on, I ended up at their house, trying to make a phone call, but I couldn't even dial the phone number correctly, when I could remember it. (This is the me screwing up, even over something so simple as using a phone.) I kept telling myself in the dream, "Why even bother?" and "Why did I bother?".

Of course, what the ghost in my parent's basement had to do with anything, I don't know.

Maybe your dream meant that you were really angry with Fire Watch. Or that you spent too much time on Hannity that day. :))

I think it was just a case of a dream being a dream. If I am remembering correctly, dreaming is a way the mind has of sorting through the day, partly sweeping away things that do not matter. I'm not a big fan, Hadassah, of using guns in avatars. ;) My mind hooked onto that gun, and made a dream of it.

I think the fighter planes exploding are things in life going wrong and you want to do something to help, but you have responsibilities and not much support so you can't help. Things in life get in the way of what you'd like to do but can't. You try to find ways to do something to help, but can't be effective because of your responsibilities. You say why bother because you know you have things you have to attend, but they still are things you want to help with. The ghost in the basement, i surmise is some issue that is lurking and won't go away. It's not in the front burner, it just won't "die".

Meggers, in a post from Thursday, you said that something physical often happens to interfere when we try to do something we need to do. Why is that?

I think because it's harder to "ignore" a physical problem and deal with something than an emotional or mental one. So it is a harder roadblock to overcome.

I am reassuring my worrying self with the thought that if the vet thought it was very serious, she would have made room to see him today.

He's been out this morning for his "morning constitutional" and is back in, and had a bit to eat -- so that's good! -- and is now in his normal resting place at the foot of our bed.

I can't get him to go to our doctor...NONE of the men in my family like him, and hubby has flatly refused to go to him any more. I am asking him as assertively as I can (trying not to "nag" -- but I'll nag if I have to) to please find SOME doctor to go to.

Losing his keys or his bluetooth, or something, is now a daily thing. Yesterday it was both his keys AND his bluetooth. I found the bluetooth; and eventually he found his keys...but he gets so frustrated in the meantime, and I don't know how to help him. All my life I've been awful about putting something in a "safe" place and then forgetting where that safe place is! Very frustrating. I've set up either baskets, drawers, bowls (depending on the room and decor) which is the only place I allow myself to put things I'll be needing again shortly (within the week). I even have a place in the car I put things like umbrellas, tissue, pens, flashlight, etcetera. I kind of feel like a dork, but it works.

My latest mishap was putting all computer notes, disks, and the like in a "safe" place. I started looking for them last summer and didn't find them until Christmas. It was in the same storage shed I put Christmas decorations--an excellent place, temperature controlled, and out of the way--but handy. However, it never occcurred to me over the summer to associate missing computer info/disks with Christmas.

http://i459.photobucket.com/albums/qq312/Lorraine-Elizabeth/tn_fireworks3.jpg

No religion is the way to God. It is the humble and contrite heart. . .which is the essence of religion. . .that is the way to God. As Christians we can believe that Christ is the way. . the only way. . .to God, and yet believe that Christ reaches beyond Christianity.

Whoever is saved. . .whether the saints of the OT (who were not Christians) or honest and good hearts among pagans. . .it will be only because of Christ, who died for every person. It is not any religion that saves us, but God's mercy.

RayMan! I found #29 (Esther). I'm down to one, too! Have you found your last one?

My answer to a midterm exam question in my NT survey class.

Question: Is the "Calvary" message still relevant. Why or why not?

Answer:

Hebrews 13:8 (http://biblegateway.com/cgi-bin/bible?language=english&version=KJV&passage=Hebrews+13%3A8)

I think that one must consider the several unique perspectives of Calvary in order to get a full orbed view of the Divine Work of God.

From God's perspective Calvary has always been a "finished" work. "The Lamb slain from the foundation of the world." Calvary in the Logos was predetermined, prearranged, premeditated and preemptive in the Mind of God. It was another one of those actions that only God can speak of as "things that are not (as to time) as though they were (already done in the plan of God as to His Will)."

From man's perspective it was an unfolding drama of the Work of God. The past, present and future all had their play in the events. Man, as he is propelled along by time, was either touched by Calvary as to history or as to reality or as to a future event. The arms of the cross reach into all tenses. "In the fullness of time" is from man's perspective. The Acts 2:38 (http://biblegateway.com/cgi-bin/bible?language=english&version=KJV&passage=Acts+2%3A38) message is the only way whereby Calvary becomes a living reality.

Therefore the Cross is and always has been a "done deal" but was also a prophetic event of the future while it was also a "current event" and it was also a "historical" event. Calvary though historical is still contemporary because it IS; Calvary is an ever flowing power that keeps pace with every generation and never diminishes nor wanes. It is a living force brought about by the death of a Sinless Sacrifice. Calvary lives because death cannot relegate it to the pages of history only; Calvary defies time because it is eternal.

Calvary, is-was-and shall be; it is an event before its time and of its time and without time. It is the stellar miracle of eternity.

I'm hanging in there. I failed my one hour glucose tolerance test last Monday (I got a 148 and wasn't supposed to get over 140). This morning I took the 3 hour test, and failed it too. Again I was close, but fail is fail. So now I'm on a restricted diet and they have to ***** my finger 4 times per day to test my blood sugar. I've gotten one finger ***** so far. I was supposed to not get over 120, and I got a 90, so that's not bad. If I continue to do okay they said they'll cut my finger ****** down to 2 per day.

i failed my GTT too, when i had my son, my sugar was ALWAYS low when i would test at home. i wonder about those tests.

It is the stellar miracle of eternity.

excellent. Especially since all time is the Present to God, so while this was a single moment in time to humans in our linear fashion of looking at time, every moment, until Christ returns, he is being crucified for our sins.

Very well, the longer version, then. I can read while I'm trying to decide whether I want to make certain famous people off limits for 8th graders to "interview" in speech/drama class. Hitler, Paris Hilton, Pol Pot, are a couple that immediately come to mind.

Why limit them? It would be interesting to see their take on those individuals.

That's why I am hesitating. Those would make for the most interesting and thought provoking interviews. The down side is 8th graders can get incredibly silly and they like to edge into areas that are inappropriate. Further, I won't be there to hear their presentations, and they will try to take advantage of that.

Still, I'm thinking if I write out a very specific grading rubric for both them and their new teacher, it should keep them in line.

That's most likely what happened. The dream was just a dream.

This is an interesting dream and analysis. Are you able to direct your dreams at all? To direct your parents or a friend to appear in your dreams when you need them?

I've never been able to direct my dreams.

Fire Watch
March 15th, 2009, 12:38 am

Dont sweat it. Women dream about me. It's just reality.

Hmmmm, that's a very interesting analysis. It could very well be the meaning of my dream, or maybe both of our analyses are correct.

Now the ghost being an issue that won't go away.....entirely likely. (Did I mention, though, that the ghost came out of the closet basement like a big fluffy cloud or a big cottonball? The ghost was all soft and poofy. :)) )

I can to a point. When I was younger, I would occasionally have dreams where I could fly...kinda just pick my legs up one at a time and whammo, I'm floating..I could move by making swimming motions, other times I could just direct my flight like Superman. I enjoyed those dreams. They were a lot of fun..so, I would try to think about flying while falling asleep. After a while, I could trigger those dreams by doing so. I still do at times when I remember to try.

the dreamworld is surely different than our wakeing hours. dreams seem to take on a perspective different than our sensual experience,
although I have touched and been touched in dreams, smelt sensual aromas, and have tasted memorable flavors, heard sounds of the day and seen things unknown in wakefulness. I had a nightmare of an apparition approach me and hold me senseless, a prayer to Jesus helped me through, I had a dream one night of a jeep comeing down from the air, on the front page of the paper the next day was a picture of a jeep being downloaded from a chopper to base, surprised the heck out of me!

Meriweather
March 15th, 2009, 12:52 am
I've never been able to direct my dreams.

I once worked with a man who was led to the wrong conclusion about me, and he became furious with me--very scary. My dreams reflected this. Each night he would enter my dreams, and each night I would be running scared. It took awhile, but because I knew what was apt to happen in my dreams, before I went to sleep I would meditate, "I will not run, I will not run..." That thought began to take hold in my dreams and I stopped running.

This, however, did nothing to mitigate my fear each time he appeared in my dreams. It finally occurred to me that I would hold out my hand to him. It was just a dream, and he couldn't hurt me in a dream. Before sleeping I began picturing holding out my hand. Once I was able to do this in my dream, the fear left me--not only in my dreams but in real life. I was (eventually) able to hold out my hand in real life, too, and things were worked out between us.

Sometimes the mind needs a path traced through it, a plan of action. Sometimes such a plan can be worked out in dreams--I don't rule out that possibility--the mind is powerful and can give feedback via dreams.

If you haven't yet been able to direct your dreams, try "pre-directing" them before sleep, and see if that helps.

Meriweather

I kept turning corners and going down halls and streets but everything was 2 dimensional, like a set. There was something very bad going on in the area and I don't know why I was there, but I wasn't afraid because this friend of mine who was a cop working in that area (just a really big guy!) was coming to find me and I knew I'd be safe. I have seen this puzzle before, and although this one is not exactly like the one I saw, I do specifically remember "a most remarkable" and finding "Amos" as one of the books.

I had a nightmare of an apparition approach me and hold me senseless, a prayer to Jesus helped me through...snip

I missed this part of your comment. Several years ago, I read a book called Thunder of Justice. (i highly recommend it).

anyway, there was one chapter that was very unsettling. I went to bed that night and dreamt that Satan was grabbing my ankle and trying to drag me away. I was absolutely petrified, but I was able to fight him off. I woke up and spent the next probably half an hour praying. Then I figured, "if what I believe has him in such a tizzy that he's coming after me, I must be doing something right". didn't worry about it any more. My best friend read the book, but I didn't tell her about my dream. She told me after she finished that same area in the book, that she dreamt that Satan was sitting on her window sill, watching her. She had the same reaction and the same thing happened.

it was an amazing thing.

THIS kind of stuff absolutely drives me berserk!

FIRST:they've known all year that there were going to be money issues. They're fixing it NOW??

Second: it's ALMOST the end of the school year. NOW what do they do to finish teaching these kids??

This is inept management to the nth degree. Maybe NEXT year, when they have their budget, they'll not have as many teachers to keep the costs down FIRST rather than disrupt these kids' lives like this. AND the teachers'. What a bunch of crap.

Pink slips each spring is simply a fact of life for teachers. They do not affect this school year--they may affect next school year. The rules say that the school district must give notification if a teacher is not guaranteed a job for the following year. Most years it is no big thing.

As a substitute teacher, I do not get a pink slip, but what I will get in a month or two is a letter saying there is a reasonable assurance (but no guarantee) that substitute teachers will be needed for the next school year.

Money issues at the District level can be a complex thing. Funding comes from local property taxes, state funding, Federal funding. The State of California follows a July to June fiscal year, so naturally, in March/April, school districts do not know what funding will be forthcoming from the state when it passes its budget. California has been awful about getting its budget passed these past two years. Of course, everyone has a general knowledge of how things will probably turn out, but as nothing is definite, pink slips are issued.

California's fiscal state is not good. The pink slips must go out--but on the other hand, word is that federal funding will probably be forthcoming--so that teachers do not need to panic (yet) because we will (probably) be helped by Obama's bailout plans.

This Federal funding is why my District is in such a panic about I, a simple substitute, have been doing, i.e., putting the students not the rules first. This year, obeying the spirit and not the letter of the law could indeed be a detriment to an entire District--and if a few classes of students are sacrificed for the good of the entire district, that's how it must be. We must maintain Federal compliance in all areas or risk (perhaps) not receiving funding we might otherwise have. It's not that I don't care about the District; it's not that the District doesn't care about my students--it's facing financial reality.

Meriweather
March 15th, 2009, 10:23 am
The only dream I've ever had in black and white was a dream that was kinda like from the Twilight Zone. I was walking through our Main St. area in the city and something was wrong. I can remember thinking in the dream, "it's ok, Roy will be here, he'll find me and I'll be fine".

It was the weirdest dream, but I still remember it.

Dreams are fun. They are why I enjoy going to sleep every night. A two-dimensional dream--how interesting! I like what the mind can do.

this week has been hellish though. census through the roof. what sucks about it is. we're doing for our REGULAR days what was going to be our 'disaster plan' if something happened. Our Lives

Our lives are like the grains of sand
Sifting slowly through an hour glass,
We pray and watch. We strive and plan.
But Lord, it's You who makes things come to pass.

My life is not my own, Lord.
You know I'm just passing through.
So, help me to stay focused
On the things You'd have me do.

Don't let our minds get weighted down
With the pressures of each day.
Let us share each other's burdens
And be a lamp to light their way.

Keep our eyes transfixed on Heaven
And away from worldly things,
Let everything we say and do
Bring Glory to Your name.

Tomorrow isn't promised, Lord,
And all we have is just today
To tell lost souls about Your grace
And how they can be saved ...

By kneeling at the rugged cross,
With their heart and souls in hand.
We know that's where forgiveness starts,
For each and every man.

Daily Devotional

Jesus showed Himself again to the disciples at the Sea. (John 21:1)

Nothing Else Works

The disciples, experienced fishermen, fished all night and caught nothing. We all know what that feels like, right? Next morning Jesus appeared on the shore and said, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat" (Jn 21:6). When they did they caught so many fish their net broke. This story teaches us three things about Jesus:

(1) Usually, you find Him at the end of your struggle. As long as you think you can do it on your own, He will let you try. And as long as what worked for you before is still working, you won't reach out to Him for help. It's only when you run out of answers that you discover it's "Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit saith the Lord" (Zec 4:6).

(2) He never takes His eye off you. "When the morning had now come, Jesus stood on the shore; and yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus" (Jn 21:4). They couldn't see Him, but He could see them. In spite of your emotional upheaval, your disappointment in those you trusted, and the futility of your own efforts, you're never beyond His care - or His reach.

(3) He invites you to come and dine. Only after He fed them and had fellowship with them, did they recognize Him. At that point their doubts dissolved, their faith was renewed and they were empowered to go out and do His work. It's back to basics! The answers you seek and the strength you need can be found only by feeding on God's Word and fellowshipping with Him in prayer. Simply stated: nothing else works.

I finished reading the linked information.

One of my pet peeves are how some current history books claim that women have been oppressed by men throughout the ages. Stories like this support my point that women of any era would not put up with being oppressed--and retained their own power.

Not that there was anything remotely praiseworthy about the actions of the women featured in the linked history--but it does support the point in the above paragraph, and it joins other anecdotes I have at hand to refute the assertion that women were oppressed.

Goodnight, Hadassah. Say a little prayer for me, won't you?

I was telling my daughter about the ruling that came down Friday at school. Not one more day at that assignment, not one more hour.

"So, you'll be returning to it Monday, won't you?"

Pray that it goes well. I'm taking this one right up to the edge of disaster. Hopefully, not over it. But at the moment I'm tired and very discouraged. Hopefully nothing that a good night's sleep and prayer can't fix.
