Morning Devotional

Study to [show yourself] approved unto God, a workman. (2 Timothy 2:15)

Strengthen Your Mind Through the Scriptures!

Our bodies don't work too well without adequate exercise; neither do our minds! Ever go back upstairs to remind yourself of why you originally went downstairs? Are names, numbers and appointments you remembered effortlessly in the past becoming increasingly elusive? Do you sometimes wonder if you're "losing it?"

Doctors say that in most cases mindless hours in front of television, avoiding intellectual stimulation and exertion, result in the shrinking of our mind's capacity, including our memory. "Brain fitness" experts assure us that our brains don't grow old from working too hard, but from hardly working at all. "Brain plasticity" - the capacity of our mind to retain or regain flexibility - is a matter of exercise. When you just let your mind "veg" and don't stretch it with thoughtful reading, rational thinking, intelligent analysis and conversation, it loses plasticity and becomes old at any age.

On the other hand, if you challenge your mind regularly, your brain gets younger as you get older. (The problem is not how old your brain is, but how old your thinking is.) Here's a great way to strengthen your mind: "Study to [show yourself] approved unto God, a workman...that needeth not to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth." The word "study" in Greek text means to exert yourself mentally, to push your mind to study God's Word.

Like a "workman," make it work! God promises that if you meditate on His Word daily you'll become "like a tree planted by streams of water...which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers" (Ps 1:3). Don't let your mind "wither," exercise and strengthen it by studying the Scriptures!

Religion Forum Post of the Week

God's church is not a building. And if there are people standing in any church building, (I don't care what church building it is. ) If someone is in that building really and truly searching for God and wanting him to be in their lives, then God will meet that person no matter where that person is. If its in a building or not God will meet with that person.

I was going to post this before Fair Meri brought the church shooting news to my attention. In honour of all those who preach the Word of God I say, "Preach it anyway!"

Anyway
by Martina McBride

You can spend your whole life buildin'
Somethin' from nothin'
One storm can come and blow it all away
Build it anyway

You can chase a dream
That seems so out of reach
And you know it might not ever come your way
Dream it anyway

[chorus]
God is great, but sometimes life ain't good
When I pray it doesn't always turn out like I think it should
But I do it anyway
I do it anyway

This worlds gone crazy and it's hard to believe
That tomorrow will be better than today
Believe it anyway
You can love someone with all your heart
For all the right reasons
An in a moment they can choose to walk away
love 'em anyway

[repeat chorus]

You can pour your soul out singing a song you believe in
but tomorrow they will forget you ever sang
Sing it anyway!

Yeah I sing,
I dream,
I love anyway!

Well, I ain't never been the Barbie doll type
No, I can't swig that sweet Champagne, I'd rather drink beer all night
In a tavern or in a honky tonk or on a four-wheel drive tailgate
I've got posters on my wall of Skynyrd, Kid and Strait
Some people look down on me, but I don't give a rip
I'll stand barefooted in my own front yard with a baby on my hip
'Cause I'm a redneck woman
I ain't no high class broad
I'm just a product of my raising
I say, 'hey ya'll' and 'yee-haw'
And I keep my Christmas lights on
On my front porch all year long
And I know all the words to every Charlie Daniels song
So here's to all my sisters out there keeping it country
Let me get a big 'hell yeah' from the redneck girls like me, hell yeah
Victoria's Secret, well their stuff's real nice
But I can buy the same damn thing on a Wal-Mart shelf half price
And still look sexy, just as sexy as those models on TV
No, I don't need no designer tag to make my man want me
Well, you might think I'm trashy, a little too hardcore
But in my neck of the woods I'm just the girl next door
I'm a redneck woman
I ain't no high class broad
I'm just a product of my raising

I used a Tylenol PM last night....as a test!

I have never used any sort of sleeping pills or anything like that before. But I know I never sleep well on airplanes, and I have a good 10+ hour plane trip coming up....and I thought I might actually try something really mild to help me sleep (but not 'put me out').

I slept well enough. The cat was able to wake me up a few times to be let out (he goes to the sliding glass door in younger son's room to be let in!), but I was able to go RIGHT back to sleep. I wasn't groggy in the morning.

But I only took ONE gel-cap, and the directions say to take TWO. So now I'm wondering if I would've slept that well, anyway...*LOL*

Should I try taking two one night next weekend?

This probably all sounds a little silly....but I'd like to avoid jet lag, if possible, by sleeping on the plane.

Any suggestions/advice?

Actually, I have always "hit the ground running on adrenalin" on my trips to England. But it does catch up with me.

But....bananas? What is the specific benefit? (Because if they work, I'll stick some in my carry-on -- if it's allowed)

I can't take anything stronger than aspirin, but this is what works for me. Take the smaller dose, but have the extra pill easily at hand in case it is needed. Or, is it one of those, "Don't take unless you can devote eight more hours to sleep" kind of pills?

I would suggest seeing how well you sleep during the week without the one gel-cap. If you sleep just as well, you can try 2 over the weekend. If you don't sleep as well, one probably will do the trick.

Morning Devotional

I have found David...a man after My own heart. (Acts 13:22)

The Path to the Throne

Anytime God describes someone as "a man after my own heart," study them carefully. Let's look at the life of David.

He had a humble start but a great finish. David began as a shepherd and ended up as a king. The chances of that happening were slim to none. In those days shepherds were so low on the totem pole they couldn't testify in a court of law; their word wasn't considered reliable. Yet David ended up writing the most widely read and loved psalms of all time.

When you invite God into your life He cancels the liabilities of your past and rewrites your future. But you must choose what He has chosen for you. There's an interesting contrast between Paul and David. Paul "sowed his wild oats" before he met Christ, then went on to live an exemplary life. David became king at thirty; yet during his forty years in leadership he experienced devastating failure. There are two lessons here:

(1) Don't rush to judgment. It's not over until God says it's over. David's story is a warning to the transgressor, a rebuke to the self-righteous, a testimony to the justice of God that won't allow us to escape our consequences, and to His love that will never let go of us.

(2) God can bring good out of it. He can take every experience you've been through, both positive and negative, and make it work for good, either your good or the good of others. When you seek to fulfill God's purposes in spite of your flaws, He makes "all things work together for good" (Ro 8:28).

I used to make butter and sugar on white bread sandwiches. You spread the butter on both pieces of bread to provide a holding mechanism for the butter. Quite tasty and full of good old wholesome kid energy!

The add can also be avoided in IE by using IE 'no-addons" version in Vista or IE "safe mode" in XP. Create a short cut to it on your desktop for easier access.

Here is what I found on FireFox:

Lord of the Mirrors:

Get the AdBlockPlus! add-on, install it in Firefox and follow the instructions for loading the db.

Clearly the "Firefox thing" wasn't done all the way. Otherwise you wouldn't see any ads at all, anywhere on the web, period. Ever.

Your AdBlock may need some initial tweaking. Go: "Adblock Plus"
then "Open Blockable Items"
then right click:

"http://dart.clearchannel.com/js.ng/site=premiere&affiliate=prn-hannity&pagepos=9001&prngenre=conservative_talk&pr ntype=web&prnpage=forum"

Then select: "Block This Item"
Click on "Add This Filter
" then "Add Filter"
Go back to Add Block Plus and select "Close Blockable Items"

And from now on, if you have AdBlock enabled, the filter database will update all by itself and you never have to even think about it.

This is why I have never seen this "gold" ad you're all speaking so fondly of!

Rckirby

I think I got it....I have firefox....I went to Tools - Addons -

picked Adblock....had to restart Firefox, but so far (fingers crossed)...the coins stopped.

Badpenny

This did it NICELY For Me!!!!

"Adblock Plus"
then "Open Blockable Items"
then right click:

"http://dart.clearchannel.com/js.ng/site=premiere&affiliate=prn-hannity&pagepos=9001&prngenre=conservative_talk&pr ntype=web&prnpage=forum"

Then select: "Block This Item"
Click on "Add This Filter" then "Add Filter"
Go back to Add Block Plus and select "Close Blockable Items"
Done.

I'm on Vista :((  :wall:

I use Chrome as my browser, I noticed several posts about turning off Java...on Chrome it runs on Adobe Flashplayer...I'll see if I can cut that off...if not, oh well.

I don't think I saw Chrome... but let me double check.

I have my security settings on high, which got rid of the gold, but it is also preventing me from using the editing tools (quotes, bolds, etcetera, unless I type in the tags myself).

Fire Watch suggested downloading Safari.

I'll go check on Chrome.

Since it seems we are sharing weird, and probably unhealthy, snacks made as a kid....were we the only ones that would butter a couple of pieces of bread and sprinkle sugar on them?

A SUGAR sandwich? Looking back, I'm like  ...but I remember liking it back then. I think the older of my two older brothers used to do peanut butter and bananas. I've always been a a PB&J snob. No other kind of peanut butter sandwich will do.

I used to make peanut butter and sugar sandwiches.

Terri,

Here is what I found on FireFox:

Lord of the Mirrors:

Get the AdBlockPlus! add-on, install it in Firefox and follow the instructions for loading the db.

Clearly the "Firefox thing" wasn't done all the way. Otherwise you wouldn't see any ads at all, anywhere on the web, period. Ever.

Your AdBlock may need some initial tweaking. Go: "Adblock Plus"
then "Open Blockable Items"
then right click:

"http://dart.clearchannel.com/js.ng/site=premiere&affiliate=prn-hannity&pagepos=9001&prngenre=conservative_talk&pr ntype=web&prnpage=forum"

Then select: "Block This Item"
Click on "Add This Filter
" then "Add Filter"
Go back to Add Block Plus and select "Close Blockable Items"

And from now on, if you have AdBlock enabled, the filter database will update all by itself and you never have to even think about it.

This is why I have never seen this "gold" ad you're all speaking so fondly of!

Rckirby

I think I got it....I have firefox....I went to Tools - Addons -

picked Adblock....had to restart Firefox, but so far (fingers crossed)...the coins stopped.

Badpenny

This did it NICELY For Me!!!!

"Adblock Plus"
then "Open Blockable Items"
then right click:

"http://dart.clearchannel.com/js.ng/site=premiere&affiliate=prn-hannity&pagepos=9001&prngenre=conservative_talk&pr ntype=web&prnpage=forum"

Then select: "Block This Item"
Click on "Add This Filter" then "Add Filter"

Done.

Hopefully, I will be able to get my son to look at this for me. I might as well be reading Latin.

Can I hang out in here with you guys? Those atheist threads make me dizzy.

Absolutely! Welcome.

Our twentieth President, James Garfield, had a way with words. I love this quote:

If you are not too large for the place you occupy, you are too small for it.

Absolutely, you are very welcome here. What are your real life plans for today?

The only thing I do not wish to see posted in here today is the expression, "To coin a phrase."

LOL - I've got two appointments set for later this afternoon. Other than that I'll probably do a little work around the house that I've neglected for awhile - I need to vacuum up a lot of cat hairs. With the weather warming up, my boy is shedding horribly.

Excellent suggestion! RayMan, you are hereby awarded all the coins and along with it, the responsibility of putting them all out of sight. Thank you. Thank you very much. Or, as Bilbo with a cold would say, "Thag you bery buch."

Bilbo, Frodo and I share the same birthday. Month and day that is, not year. I am not that old regardless of the scurrilous untruths CID spreads about me.

Can you figure out that date without having recourse to my public profile?

Good morning everyone. Today I will be frying eggs for everyone, using my son's very hot forehead as the fryer. Place your orders here, please. Thank you. :shifty:

I would like mine over medium with an order of hash browns. Very thoughtful of you Haddie.

In fact, I did add.

Bilbo and Frodo share the same birthdate as my paternal grandmother. Therefore your birthday is September 22. I do not know the year, but I would guess late 1940s or early 1950s?

What is odd? Are you talking about the argument that the Shire Calendar may differ from the Gregorian Calendar, and that the birthdays fall on September 14?

Sorry, Grandma rules! Bilbo and Frodo's birthdays are therefore officially observed on September 22 (in my mind).

My grand opening occurred roughly fourteen months before Disneyland's.

Grandfather, mother, husband, daughter, niece were all born in May. I would say I have to agree with your assessment.

Which date in May do you consider particularly awesome?

The 15th and 16th. Grandmother was born on the 15th and yours truly made his debut on the 16th about 47 years later.

Ten months before Disneyland. I was thinking twelve months in a year and two months between July and September but mistakenly combined the year and two months rather than separating them.

Math really does suck. Or maybe I suck at math. Actually we can strike the word maybe from that sentence. Me need more coffee.

We could all make a special to include bufisms in all our posts. That way if the word integer comes up it will be unrecognizable as such.

You guys are doing terrific at cheering the place up after my moroseness last night. I'll do better tonight, I promise, but for now, off I go.

If any of you see Fire Watch tell him I intend to behave in the Op-Ed Forum this week. He'll be relieved. Until he remembers that every day I wake up with the intention to behave.
