I just got the call....my aunt passed into Jesus' arms a few minutes ago....
We beseech Thee, O Lord,
in Thy mercy,
to have pity on the soul of Thy handmaid, Hildreth;
do Thou, Who hast freed her
from the perils of this mortal life,
restore to her the portion of everlasting salvation.
Through Christ our Lord,
amen
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord and give comfort and peace to her loved ones.
 for you, Terri. I am so sorry for your loss.

Dont' tell me that... I don't have clothes for weather like that. I don't have anything heavier than a fleece jacket. O.o
Do you have any relatives that could loan you a coat while you're there?
I hear ya.....living in southern California, I usually don't have a lot of need for clothing suited for snow or sub-freezing temperatures. Most of my shoes are open-toed sandals!

Gotta duck out now. One of my employees couldn't make it in tonight so after awaking at 8am today, I get to pull a 6 to 6 tonight. I'll check in ocassionally tonight.
On the plus side, the old lady started in on me last night. So I don't have to spend tonight listening to her carp at me. :woot:

Sooo....no silver bells or cockle shells...no pretty maids all in a row?
Back in the days where there was no freedom of the press and freedom of speech might land one in trouble, some of the rhymes we now call nursery rhymes had a much darker meaning.
Mary, Mary Quite Contrary was originally a commentary on Mary Tudor, also known as Bloody Mary. She married Prince Philip of Spain and tried to conceive, but failed. "How does your garden grow?" is a sneer about her infertility. The silver bells, and cockle shells, and pretty maids all in a row were in reference to torture devices. (Think about the second one a minute.)

A family has to be screened before accepting an overseas assignment - this is for their protection as much as the service. When we were in England, one family lied on their screening because they wanted the assignment, they then proceeded (once settled in) to demand their son receive special services for issues they had hidden. Hundreds of thousands of dollars were spent to bring services to him in England where he should have never been.
Our tax dollars could be better spent.

I've had to overcome that last one a bit with my classes. But I usually go out and buy crayons/pencils so I don't have markers available for paper. (Dry erase on whiteboards don't do it.)

Beyond Hope
Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” —Luke 23:43
A 110-year-old Israeli Bedouin shepherd was admitted to a Beersheba hospital while experiencing a heart attack. In spite of his age, doctors worked hard to save him. The man was thought to be the oldest heart patient ever to be treated successfully with anticlotting drugs. A hospital spokesperson reported that the Bedouin returned to his tent in the Negev Desert to tend his goats.
The care given to this 110-year-old man faintly echoes the way Jesus responded to those people we consider beyond help. His ability and willingness to go beyond social barriers to help lepers and social outcasts went far beyond the normal expectations of what a good person would do.
Even in the agony of His own suffering, Jesus reached out to a dying man everyone else regarded as beyond help. The man was a criminal, condemned to die, and only hours from entering a lost eternity. In that moment, Jesus responded to the man’s cry for help and said, “Today you will be with Me in Paradise” (Luke 23:43).
Do you know someone who seems beyond help today? Perhaps you think you are without hope. The God of the Bible specializes in giving help to those regarded as so old, so guilty, or so weak as to be beyond help. — Mart De Haan

The Edge
by Michael Card
Most of us will never know
How dark this world can seem
When life becomes more nightmare than a dream.
So to all of you who have survived
A visit to the edge,
I trust that you will understand this pledge.
Chorus:
I promise I will always leave
The darkness for the light.
I swear by all that's holy
I will not give up the fight.
I'll drink down death like water
Before I ever come again
To that dark place where I might make
The choice for life to end.
I've found that as I travelled
Through the inscape of my land
That mountaintops make valleys in between.
And when that nameless sadness
Like a cloud comes over me
I look back on all the brightness I have seen.
CHORUS
Bridge:
I realize that though my world
Might seem so torn apart,
Most often it is joy that breaks the heart.
And that I am the richest man
Though I must beg for bread,
For the very One who might condemn
Has called me friend instead.
CHORUS
I will always leave the darkness for the light.
I will not give up the fight.

yesterday morning was very nice for me.
I got to go and hear one of my uncles preach. in a church. :)
I've many times heard my uncles lead family devotions and what-not, but I've never been to hear any of them preach in church. Yesterday I got that opportunity. They all live so far away from me ... this uncle was visiting from Missouri.

Before heading off to school today, I'm going to play Mama Hen and cluck a little over all my chicks.
We were given two heads up at the beginning of the weekend; since then we guilty parties have been working self-correcting, but let’s continue to be aware of our current faults:
1. Do not take threads off topic.
2. Discuss the topic, not any of its posters.
As has already been noted, we don’t have to go to the opposite extreme with this; sometimes a shift to break building tension is a very good thing. This rule of thumb may help: If you choose to briefly take a thread off topic for its own good, accept the responsibility for returning it to its topic. Another thought is to derail the mood if need be, but not the topic.
Threads do take on a rhythm when read all at once at the end of the day. Derailing can be seen as an annoyance at that time. On the other hand, I believe those of you who are here when tension is at its peak need to do whatever needs to be done for the good of the group present.
As I noted, the rest of the weekend seemed to go smoothly, so group hug, everyone--and pats on the back all around. I still say we are the BEST forum here on Hannity, but I might be slightly biased (being one of the guilty).
Here is a prayer for us this day.
May God bless us and keep us;
May He make His face shine upon us,
and be gracious unto us;
May the Lord lift up his countenance upon us,
and give us peace.
Great devotional today, CID.
Before you leave California (in your dreams) stop by and I'll introduce you to my class of "Pentecostals." You can run a lap with them.

Grace is not a license to sin, but to walk in humility in the sight of God. Grace frees us to be active in the works of God. We are not tied up with how much we have done, or not done, but we learn by the grace of God to rest in His love.
