So, we went to lunch this afternoon, and went and did a little Christmas shopping....
The kids are really quiet, we're listening to Christmas music in the car...then I hear Emily..."Daddy?"
"Yes, sweetheart."
"Why did Jesus wear a dress?"
 "ummm....he wore a robe baby, you know like Daddy wears in the mornings."
"Uh uh Daddy...his came down to his feet and had pretty colors...Jesus wore a dress."
How can I compete with that?
Joseph's coat of many colors?
Children are priceless.
Bee stings and honey. Good things to keep in mind.

I didn't even think about that...you're probably right...Joseph's coat...
I was telling Rick in the Lodge about this and how she pays attention in church, but she does get things confused...hang on and I'll post her version of the crucifixion.

Yeah...she's a trip when it comes to Jesus...she pays attention in church, but she gets things confused...you should hear her story of the crucifixion...
Jesus died aCross the street.
And they put booboos on his hands and feet
(tears falling) Then He died.
But then He went to the doctor and they gave him a shot and he was all better
And three days later He got a rose.

Take my hand, and walk with me a while.
I know your lost now, and frigtened like a little child.
But have no fear, because I'll never leave your side.
I will guide you through the storms of your life.
You say how can this be true, that I would do this for you.
If you just believe, you will plainly see, how much I love you.
I gave my life, so you could have yours.
Between two thieves is where I died.
No it wasn't easy, the hardest thing I've ever done.
But I'd do it all again to save just one.
You say how can this be true, that I would do this for you.
If you just believe, you will plainly see, how much I love you.
Well that is all, the rest is up to you.
The choice is yours, so what will you do?
Let me know, when you make up your mind.
I'll be right here, standing by your side.
I'm not going to beg, and I surely won't plead.
I'll simply just ask, do you believe how much I love you.
Take my hand, and walk with me a while....

And you all embrace each other's humanity."
The posters at first were aghast
But the mod's decision held fast.
Time to reflect
About mutual respect,
Resulted in improvement so vast!
So, the moral that's right on the money,
Is that human nature, while funny,
too often will cling
To habits that sting,
Until someone wise shows them the honey!

I remember last year, there was a leak in the roof of the sanctuary at the synagogue where I work. My son walked through the flood to get into the main room, like we all had to do, and he started to cry. He looked at me and said, "G-d broke the promise! There's a flood. :((" One of the rabbis (the newest one, who really didn't have any experience yet) was standing right there, he said to me, "I wanna see how you handle this."

what is Epiphany megs?
Epiphany is the day that is celebrated that the Magi came to see the Christ. It is the 12th day of Christmas.
from Wiki (sorry buf and vir, but it was quickest)
Epiphany may refer to:
Epiphany (holiday), a Christian holiday on January 6 celebrating the visit of the Magi to the infant Jesus
Epiphany (feeling), the sudden realization or comprehension of the essence or meaning of something
They use it to refer to the Magi seeing Jesus as it was supposedly is first 'showing' to people who came in faith.

I will be praying CID. I know God does miracles. My husband's best friend was proof and he acknowledges it.
Dear Lord,
We are asking for a miracle. We know this is in your hands. We ask, Lord that your will be done, but we ask Lord, that if it's possible, you grant our prayer. This boy has barely begun his life. Please give him a chance to be a gift to the world, let him be that which shows your mercy. We ask this Lord, knowing that Your will must be done.
Please give comfort to his family and guidance to his care-givers.
Spare him Lord, as you have others.
Your will be done. Amen.

Sketch is doing just fine. He has helped me grow my faith.... God can use Sketch and all his friends here all he wants. I think the Atheists and Agnostics here all great contributors. I would like to personally thank them all and let them know I appreciate their presence.

On the first night of Chanukah my children received:
Books.
Son got Magic Treehouse books that he can read by himself or to his sisters.
Middle child got Anne of Green Gables (and a locket that came with the book--and the promise of Mommy reading it to her every night I'm home for bedtime)
Youngest got Anne of Avonlea (with a flower necklace and the same promise.)

Well, I'm only doing presents until Thursday--and then only if the kids behave. (Son went sneaking where he knew he wasn't allowed and found one of his presents... which he may or may not get now.) My mother is coming into town on Thursday, and she's sure to bring a ton more gifts than the kids need.

my kids always knew where I hid their presents. my daughter always wanted to be surprised, but my son would be sneaky. that boy is too much like his mother. :))

Did I ever mention the gem we brought home from our years in England? A Victorian wall box much like this one: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3162/2815401364_b0c2fc6beb.jpg?v=0
We have the original plates and spent a lovely weekend scoping out its original home in Barber Green, Cumbria.
Oh, wow.....that is great!
If I could have afforded it, I would have loved to have bought one of the red phone kiosks (they are supposedly phasing them out, and were selling them)....but where would I have put it?
Still......

I've been on very many forums with many unfair mods in my days and this is the best forum of all, I would usually be banned long ago. If I could have afforded it, I would have loved to have bought one of the red phone kiosks (they are supposedly phasing them out, and were selling them)....but where would I have put it?
Still......
While we were still living there, the Crown put the kibosh on selling them, they wanted them bought back and used to replace the new ugly ones. Seems someone got smart about "atmosphere" and what makes Britain more attractive than the rest of Europe. (Though, if you like chocolate, Brugge has a marvelous days worth of 'atmosphere'.)
Hammacher Schlemmer used to sell them, don't know if they still do. Also, I once saw a home that people built where the phone box was the walkway/transition from the formal side of the house to the family room - well done, I thought. (Also heard of one guy turned the phone box into a loo - with plumbing, not drunk style loo...)

Old metal cleats if it's icy. Then we call it adjuster damage and total the whole flippin roof.

Dream: I dreamt that I took my youngest daughter with me and we ran away to Chicago, by way of New Mexico and Indiana, and it only took about four hours. When I got there, my other two kids had stowed away. I found it very weird driving on black ice. I stayed with someone I had never met before; he still lived with his parents. I spent most of the time with my kids shopping before driving back.

December Desire
They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. —Revelation 22:5
December is a month when people celebrate miracles. The Jewish tradition of Hanukkah—the Holiday of Lights—commemorates the time when a small amount of oil lasted 8 days and kept the light in the temple from going out. And Christmas celebrates the coming of the “Light of the World,” God in human form—Jesus.
A miracle is generally thought of as something that contradicts nature. But a true miracle is the introduction of God’s supernatural power into our world in a way that suspends the laws of physics as we understand them.
In December, it seems that more of us are willing to suspend disbelief and entertain the possibility that “nature” is not the final authority. Even the non-religious yearn for miracles. Deep down, everyone wants to believe that darkness, disease, and death can be overcome.
Perhaps the most wondrous thing about miracles is that it is God’s nature to do the supernatural. The closing chapters of Scripture assure us that this “December desire” for all to be well will become a reality: “There shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain” (Rev. 21:4). God will one day bring to an end the unnatural rule of Satan and begin His righteous reign as the rightful Ruler of the universe. — Julie Ackerman Link
Thank You, Lord, that although we live in a world
where Satan’s shadow obscures Your glorious light,
we eagerly anticipate the day when Your full glory will once again illuminate all creation. Amen.
A miracle needs no explanation to those who believe in God; to those who don’t, no explanation is enough.

welcome to outcome based education. if the plural of hoof is hooves, the plural of roof is rooves.....
which would mean the plural of Toof is tooves, not teef
which is actually also not correct because the singular is teef and the plural is teefses, similarly....feets and feetses...etc.

if that's the case, just get him something not as elaborate when everyone else is getting something so he gets SOMETHING but also "gets it".
my kids get pj's christmas eve....i'm gonna buy them some this year and they are 22 and 19.
i started doing that when they were little so they'd a) have something to open on christmas eve which was from us and not 'santa' and b) they'd have nice christmas jammies for pictures christmas morning!:D

I have one student whose family is rich enough that she convinced the synagogue to have me go to her house to teach her. So I have to see her on a day I normally don't teach. I went to her house today, and the guard at the gate called to see if I was approved. No answer at the house. He calls the cell phone. The mom says that she forgot and MAYBE she will see me next week. grrrrr

Can you ask the synagouge to institute a policy where, if families want "special treatment" for their child(ren) and then don't even have the courtesy to cancel within a decent time limit, they have to reimburse you? Just because you're going the work of G-d, doesn't mean you should have to take the hit financially when someone doesn't have the manners to call and cancel.

Daily Devotional
When I was last helping with the daily devotionals, the focus was on prayers. At the website CID uses (WAIO.org), they have come up with a great acronym: P.U.S.H. (Pray Until Something Happens) Sometimes I find myself wondering how long I should pray because I don't want it to become nagging. "Pray Until Something Happens" has answered my question.
Today's devotional (from WAIO.org) focuses on leadership.
"Work hard and become a leader." Proverbs 12:24
Pitfalls for Leaders
If you are a leader, try to avoid these pitfalls:
(1) Micromanaging vs. leading. Managing people requires an eye for detail, whereas leading involves vision-sharing, goal-setting and motivating. And you must know the difference. When you micromanage rather than lead, morale plummets because people need clear objectives and the freedom to figure out how to reach them. Don't micromanage; it diminishes the sense of "ownership" those under and around you need for good team dynamics and problem-solving. President Eisenhower once said: "Pull the string and it'll follow you wherever you wish. Push it, and it'll go nowhere."
(2) Confusing individual loyalty with team building. It's good to work closely with key individuals, but it's also important for people to stay "connected to each other" (Ro 12:5 GWT). Make sure everybody gets to be on the team, feels valued and learns how to interact with one another.
(3) Being afraid to try things. Stretching people into new areas means they'll make mistakes. While locking them into the same routine may keep them (and you) safe, it takes the motivational wind out of their sails. Being a leader means risking other people's failures and biting your lip as you let them "toddle" out into the unknown. Like a parent who prays harder when their teen takes the family car out for their first drive, you must accept that some challenges which frighten you are liberating to others. Solomon said, "Work hard and become a leader." That raises a question. If you are leading others, who is leading you? The best way to lead, is to follow God and obey His Word!

Terri, don't overdo it! Nurse's orders! I'll even give you a note, signed Epstein's mother!

I used to have socks like that. I'd get a few more pairs if I could find them anywhere.
my daughter loves toe socks. I can't stand them. I hate having things between my toes.

We loved the Japanese version with the goofy voice overs.
17 Jean Valjeans - only if you are a Les Mis fan- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPpkTgMbhRU
I saw that on PBS once....it was very interesting. I actually have the video of the concert.
it is one of the two musicals my husband ever came to with me.
I remember thinking the first time i saw it that it made me proud to be an American.
secondarily, I think that the guys who sang in the non-English languages sounded so much better...I think they were more resolute (well, except the Irish guy) ...maybe it's because most all of them came from countries that understood struggle.

My dream role is Fantine. Don't know if it will ever happen, but I would love to play her.
ETA: Madam Thenardier would be fun too.

My husband is trying to make a CD of Christmas songs. Him singing. He's having some problems (well, we don't exactly have a recording studio in our house).
I told him he could figure he was about 4 weeks late on starting....or that he's giving himself 11 months to get it right!

We do have a recording studio in our house, and it STILL needs more time than two days.

that's great. I sent it to several people.
several years ago.....i believe it was Molly Ivens (Ivins?) who wrote an entire article using the proper spelling of the wrong words and the spell checker didn't indicate that any were wrong. It was hilarious.

I love the music Fantine sings. The first time I heard Les Mis, my daughter was a baby and I couldn't sing Come to Me without sobbing.

My dream role: Christine in The Phantom of the Opera. Even though I'm technically a high soprano, I prefer mezzo roles. I really can't stand Christine or Cosette.

It's been a very bad morning. VERY bad. The rest of the day is not promising to be much better. But, I just remembered jwil's son Mitchell and I realized that things could be so much worse.
God, forgive me my bad attitude.

Me neither. I like Eponine much better. She was a more interesting character, at least as portrayed on stage. I admit I have not read the book. I started it, but didn't finish.

It is worth the read because it is so much more than what is seen on stage. I am not an emotional person but I was crying through the end of the book for the characters and I was enraged at Hugo for what I thought was going to be a miserable ending...
However, the reason I was able to get through the book was because I first listened to the abridged (5 hours) version on Audible. It compelled me to put the effort into the whole book because I really wanted to know the whole story.

I saw it in London four times - each time we were willing to pay higher prices for better seats. We'll take the children to the same theatre in a few years.

VERY emotional, and the musical only gets about half of the story in.
