Maybe if Mimi tried counting sheep. But then, when I do that, if I haven't gone to sleep by the time I get to sheep number ninty nine, I always have to get up out of bed and go outside to hunt for that one stinker who ran off and got lost. Sometimes it takes me all night to find that one lost sheep, and I am always so tired the next day. On second thought, maybe "Sominex" would be better.

Good morning! Did everyone sleep well? Hopefully without Sominex or sheep bleating?
I am keeping in mind two of my favorite thoughts for the day. The first is by Abraham Lincoln.
"Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be."
The second:
"He started to sing as he tackled the thing that could not be done and he did it."

It's my last week with this particular set of classes. I can't imagine how this age group manages to tuck themselves into one's heart, but they do. The feeling is like being skinned alived, inch-by-inch. (It's always this way--part of the process--grief, healing, and on to something new again.)

Dealing with disappointment (3)
Finally there's: Disappointment in ourselves. It's potentially the most debilitating kind of disappointment because it can throw you into a downward spiral that's hard to stop or recover from.
Peter had sworn undying love and fidelity to Jesus. "Lord, everybody else may abandon you, but not me! I'm yours till death" (See Mt 26:33-75). And he meant every word of it. But under the pressures surrounding the crucifixion he yields, and three times denies knowing Jesus. Later, remembering Jesus' words, "Before the rooster crows, you'll deny me three times," Peter, heartbroken by his own dismal failure, "went outside and wept bitterly" (Lk 22:62 NIV). Ever asked, "God, how can you possibly use someone as messed up as me?" Peter failed to meet his own expectations and went on a downer. But Jesus wasn't shocked. He was well aware of Peter's flaws when he called him into the ministry. He also knew that his blustering, outspoken disciple had a tender heart, so He extended grace to him rather than remove him from office. When Christ gave post-resurrection orders to "tell His disciples and Peter" (Mk 16:7 NIV) to meet Him in Galilee, He reaffirmed His choice of the failed disciple. The rest of Peter's story is New Testament history.
When (not if!) you confront failure: (1) Don't add insult to injury by letting disappointment mire you in hopelessness and despair. (2) Humble yourself and repent. Confess your sin; don't excuse, rationalize or blame circumstances and people. (3) Receive God's grace and forgiveness by faith, not by feelings. Don't let Satan convince you your case is beyond grace. (4) Get whatever help you need to get back on track - sooner, not later.WAIO.org

+1
Well, actually, probably more like +4. The rest of my family loves it, too. Older son used it as a basis for a speech he gave in the Optimist Speech contest when he was in 8th grade.
As I recall, the subject of the speeches was to be "How I Can Make A Difference In The World" -- his twist was that, per the movie's theme, we ALL make a difference in the world, the true question should be what KIND of difference we will make. His teacher told me she was (no pun intended) speechless when she read his draft, and she was so moved that she cried while reading it.
But he came in second in the contest, to someone who actually answered the question...*LOL*....still he beat out all the rest, which included high school students!

This is well worth the short read.
An elderly Cherokee Native American was teaching his grandchildren about life...
He said to them, "A fight is going on inside me, it is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.
One wolf is evil -- he is fear, anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, competition, superiority, and ego.
The other is good---he is joy, peace, love, hope, sharing, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, friendship, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.
This same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other person, too."
They thought about it for a minute and then one child asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"
The old Cherokee simply replied: "The one you feed".

The Catholic church used to recognize cats as being of the devil. What happened to change that?
John Richard Stephens explains in his book, The Enchanted Cat how people twisted the concept of association with cats into something demonic and evil:
When people think of witches, they often think of cats. The association of cats with witchcraft began with the Catholic church's persecution of religious groups, some of whom worshipped the cat. In the 12th century this persecution spread to splinter groups of the church itself, such as the Cathars, whom the church accused of worshipping the Devil in the form of a cat. This led to stories of Satan's appearing at Black Masses as a cat.
The witch trials started in the 13th century. People began to believe that witches had the ability to turn into an animal, usually a hare or a cat, in order to transport themselves to a sabbat (a midnight meeting) presided over by the Devil.

Based on your post, I would have to guess that it was worship of cats, not cats themselves was the issue.
While I appreciate the neighborhood cats keeping down the rodent population, I also spend a good portion of every spring chasing cats away from young birds. I'm also allergic to cats, another minus point for me. On the other hand, I once was involved in taking care of a cat that had cancer--and it was a brave, spunky little thing.
I'm giving credit where credit is due. We hard-hearted people do this once a year--but never with people, only with cats. We have our standards.

I want deliberately to encourage this mighty longing after God. The lack of it has brought us to our present low estate. The stiff and wooden quality about our religious lives is a result of our lack of holy desire. Complacency is a deadly foe of all spiritual growth. Acute desire must be present or there will be no manifestation of Christ to His people. He waits to be wanted. Too bad that with many of us He waits so long, so very long, in vain.

Why she was called "Whistling Death"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQxb-V-rZqA&feature=related
Note the openings at the wing roots. Those housed coolers for the engine oil. At speed the air being forced through there would cause a whistling sound. You can hear it on the two flybys in the video.
i built a scale model of one once. i had trouble making the landing gear work right, but it sure was pretty.

That passage is making an incorrect assumption about my relationship with my spouse.
A better passage would be:
Is your life
More filled with strife
Because of your wife?
sorta like
Is your wedding band
Leading you to quicksand
Because of your husband?

I'm tapping my foot waiting for CID to drop by. I didn't see a morning devotional today. When he doesn't post one, I'm supposed to. I need to find out who is at fault here. I'm hoping it's CID, but I think our contract states that it's me.

Looking back, I did everything I could to stay out of teaching for just the reason you stated. It's funny how life is able to suck you in to things you would rather avoid. I ran from teaching, convinced I would not make a good teacher; when there was no choice, working to be a good teacher was the only option left. Some days I'm brilliant at what I do. Other days, not so good. I still have to work hard at it.

Have A Nice Day
by Spike Milligan
'Help, help, ' said a man. 'I'm drowning.'
'Hang on, ' said a man from the shore.
'Help, help, ' said the man. 'I'm not clowning.'
'Yes, I know, I heard you before.
Be patient dear man who is drowning,
You, see I've got a disease.
I'm waiting for a Doctor J. Browning.
So do be patient please.'
'How long, ' said the man who was drowning. 'Will it take for the Doc to arrive? '
'Not very long, ' said the man with the disease. 'Till then try staying alive.'
'Very well, ' said the man who was drowning. 'I'll try and stay afloat.
By reciting the poems of Browning
And other things he wrote.'
'Help, help, ' said the man with the disease, 'I suddenly feel quite ill.'
'Keep calm.' said the man who was drowning, ' Breathe deeply and lie quite still.'
'Oh dear, ' said the man with the awful disease. 'I think I'm going to die.'
'Farewell, ' said the man who was drowning.
Said the man with the disease, 'goodbye.'
So the man who was drowning, drownded
And the man with the disease past away.
But apart from that,
And a fire in my flat,
It's been a very nice day.
